Coffee and Friends Café, located at Central Park Place Plaza in Okemos, will be the site of a Grande Opening Celebration on Saturday, April 10th, and there are many reasons to visit the New Coffee House on the Block that day!

The light charged Paintings of Gijsbert vanFrankenhuyzen will be on display and vanFrankehuyzen will be on hand, 12 noon - 2pm to autograph his newly released Children's book, "S is for ®Smithsonian, America's Museum Alphabet”. It is the 26th book he has illustrated with Sleeping Bear Press.

From 2 – 4pm Author/Poet, Dee Freeman, will be reading some of her outstanding poetry and she will be autographing her newly released book, “Poetry She Wrote III, Love Ever Flowing”. This book is her fourth release, ...guaranteed to enrich the lives of those who read it!
There will also be live music throughout the day at Coffee and Friends Grande Opening. From 3 – 6p.m. the whole family will enjoy the magical and fun songs of Mystic Shake! This band reaches out to families, young and old, and gets them involved with the music, ...”delightful”!
Coffee and Friends Cafe will be serving up Saturday Evening Salsa at this Grande Opening! From 6:30 – 9p.m., The Latin Jazz sounds of “Ritmo (Skinny)” will fill the coffee house. The band features 4 members of the outstanding 11 piece “Orquesta Ritmo”, lead by Salsa-Meister Mike Eyia!

Coffee and Friends Cafe is a family endeavor. The Owners are DeAnn and John Reich, of Bath, and their daughters, Rebeka Hosford and Margaret Hufnall, are managing the business. Rebeka is a talented Barista, and handles the front of the house, while Margaret, a chef with experience from working at several locally popular eateries, runs the kitchen. They have many great ideas for developing the Coffee and Friends Cafe. Their vision is to create a popular meeting place where friends will enjoy not only great coffee and conversation, but also live music, art, poetry and a variety of events.

The Cafe Managers plan to feature an Artist of the Month in their Gallery Room, and are booking Artists beginning in May. (The vanFrankenhuyzen paintings will be a mainstay at the Café, and will be continuously on display in the Java Room after April.)

The coffee house/restaurant is currently offering live music on Friday evenings 6 – 9 pm. and Saturdays during the day, noon – 3 pm. Artists and Musicians who are interested in being involved in Café events, should contact Ronda Liskey at rliskey@aol.com.

Coffee and Friends Owners are also opening their doors for small groups to hold meetings, and there is no fee to use the meeting area, (space for 20 - 25 people max.). Coffee and Friends has an elaborate coffee drink menu, teas and sodas, along with delicious sandwiches, salads, soups, and homemade pastries, in house or take out!
